Typical cases

What we usually find

An old unit with fuses or no RCD

Without an RCD there is no protection against electric shock from faulty appliances. It is the first thing we replace.

Everything on one circuit

If the whole house goes dark when one protection trips, the circuits are not separated as Spanish regulations require.

Getting ready for an EV charger or solar panels

Both need their own circuit and protection; they are never hung from an existing one.

The power trips when the oven, water heater and hob run together

It is not a fault, it is contracted power. Either the use is spread out or the power is increased, and that is calculated first because you pay for it every month.

Questions

What people ask before writing

Do walls have to be opened to replace the consumer unit?

In most cases no: the unit is replaced and the existing wiring is reused if it is in good condition. If new circuits are needed, we tell you before we start.

How much does a new consumer unit cost?

A 6-circuit unit with its protections is €565 and a 10-circuit one €920; if you also need the certificate, add €365. What changes the price is how many extra circuits are needed and whether new lines must be run: we look and put it in writing.

How long does it take?

Replacing a consumer unit in a home usually takes one working day, with the power off only for as long as necessary.
